Meet us

Hello, I’m Terri and I am a Veterinary Surgeon and owner of PetVet2u.

I grew up in Monkseaton surrounded by a menagerie of pets, and knew I always wanted to be a vet. It took me several other careers before finally achieving my aim of being a vet in 2002, graduating from Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia.

After graduation I spent a year in mixed practice in Yorkshire, where I discovered that there was nothing glamorous about a vet’s life with 3am calvings in the middle of winter!

Before too long, Australia beckoned again, and I returned to the sunshine to work, in mixed practice again. This time the practice specialised in birds and wildlife, and I was very lucky to have been able to treat all sorts of exotic animals: bilbies, quokkas, echidnas, wombats, wallabies and camels to name but a few. The bird life in Australia is magnificent and most days I would see Major Mitchell cockatoos, wedge-tailed eagles and pink and grey galahs, among many others. I quickly built up a reputation for treating birds and exotics which meant I was privileged enough to look after animals which most people have never even heard of! I certainly learned how to think on my toes! How shall I deal with a python having difficulty giving birth? What’s the best way to anaesthetise a pelican?

I have also been lucky enough to gain a wide range of experience in several other countries including volunteering with the Soi Dog Foundation in Thailand. This saw me performing surgery in a back garden, on a very low table, with archaic drugs and equipment. Thankfully every patient survived and returned to lead a happier and healthier life. Somewhere along the line I managed to fit in a trip to Africa and was very privileged to exchange veterinary advice for a lion cub cuddle and a meerkat baby hug!

After I returned to the UK in recent years, I started work at the PDSA which is a very busy charity that enables people on benefits to have access to veterinary care. As PDSA resources have become increasingly stretched, the waiting lists become longer and longer. It saddens me deeply that many animals are waiting in the stressful environment of a mixed species waiting room prior to their appointment for euthanasia. This has led me to where I am today and has been the driver for branching out into home pet euthanasia services.

I am a passionate animal lover and owner of my own menagerie. I cannot imagine them having their final moments in a stressful and frightened state, and I want to provide the same level of care to your pets as I would to my own. I aim to provide high quality, reasonably priced home visits, with a discount for PDSA clients and senior citizens, so that precious pets can be put to sleep in their own homes with their family around them.

It has been such a privilege to work with such amazing animals.
